The Alabama Life Research Institute has named four faculty members from The University of Alabama as the inaugural fellows in the ALRI Faculty Research Fellowship Program.
Selected fellows represent colleges and schools from across the UA campus. Their areas of study include topics such as machine learning, childhood trauma, brain health outcomes, and infant vocal development and caregiver-infant interaction.
“The ALRI is now well positioned to support a broad range of faculty who want to either expand their research to include neuroimaging or leverage some of our community-based programs to enhance their research program,” said Dr. Sharlene Newman, executive director of the Alabama Life Research Institute. “I am really excited about our first group of Research Fellows and what they have planned for the coming year.”
The ALRI faculty research fellows include:
- Hongsheng He, associate professor of computer science, College of Engineering
- Lindamarie Olson, assistant professor of social work, School of Social Work
- Jessica Wallace, assistant professor of health science, College of Human Environmental Sciences
- Hyunjoo Yoo, assistant professor of communicative disorders, College of Arts & Sciences
ALRI will award faculty fellowships annually to applicants affiliated with the institute. Each fellowship has a tenure of one academic year.
During the fellowship year, fellows are supported in developing their own programs of research and grant proposals that leverage ALRI’s core themes and resources, including community development, rural health, and health disparities; housing conditions; and cognitive neuroscience.
